triples carnival in July
By RICHARD GUEST*
FORMER Kiwi international
lawn bowler Paul Girdler
will take up the reins as
Bowls Manager at St Johns
Park BC this month with the aim
of taking the club to a new level.
Girdler (46) had an illustrious
playing career representing New
Zealand in 192 tests.
Major achievements include four
bronze medals at World Bowls in
2001 and 2004, and gold, silver and
bronze medals at the Asia Pacific
Championships in 2001 and 2003.
He has also represented New
Zealand at six consecutive Trans-
Tasman tournaments from 1999-
2004, and won numerous national
titles and invitation tournaments
throughout New Zealand, Australia
and the world.
For Girdler, becoming Bowls
Manager at St Johns Park brings
him full circle.

For the public, the high calibre
of teams for this tournament will
be a great opportunity to see first
hand some top class bowlers in
action, and to study their style
and see how they handle the
greens in the flesh, rather than
the artificiality of the television,
where some of these players are
only seen by the general public.
There will be club members
available for members of the public
to learn more about bowls and
how best to have a tryout with
a view to joining a club.
New members are always wel-

the district, as it is followed by

In all, it is a great feast of
bowls on the Mid North Coast
centred on Coffs Harbour.
